Closed die forging, also known as die forging, is one of the forging types of small or medium metal parts. Closed forging of harvester forgings is a plastic deformation process. Unlike the open die forging process, the material is forced to flow in a closed shape called a mold. Closed die forging (also known as hot forging) allows for more complex geometries than the open die forging, very close to the dimensions of the finished part. Plastic deformation is quickly given by some jets, which forces the material to fill the shape of the mold. This process is carried out at the plastic temperature of the material in use without intermediate reheating.
